David Rho MD

Dr. David Rho graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. At MIT, he conducted research in visual anatomy and physiology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1989. After an internship year in the Department of Medicine at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, he completed his residency at the Department of Ophthalmology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
At Lenox Hill, he authored a chapter on complications of cataract surgery in the textbook Complications of Ophthalmic Surgery. Dr. Rho then completed two fellowships in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery, the first at Loma Linda School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California, and the second at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. At Loma Linda, he was awarded the Award for Outstanding Teaching and Dedication by the ophthalmology residents. At Harvard, he completed and published several research studies investigating diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases.
Dr. Rho is a board certified ophthalmologist, and he serves as Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He performs state-of-the-art laser and surgical vitreo-retinal procedures, with particular interests in diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. He has published numerous articles in major peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals and regularly presents his research at regional and national ophthalmology conferences. Dr. Rho served as chairman of the Education Committee for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
Dr. Rho has a beautiful family with a wonderful wife, two daughters, and one son. He plays ice hockey twice a week, and he coaches his daughter’s travel soccer and son’s street hockey teams. They all enjoy ice skating together. Dr. Rho enjoys conversations in English, Spanish and Korean. He is an audiophile and he collects vintage stereo equipment. He also enjoys HD videography and DSLR photography.
