Hema K Sugumaran MD

Dr. Hema Sugumaran provides comprehensive eye care with an emphasis on the medical management of glaucoma. An important part of her approach to helping patients is making sure they are well-informed, especially in regard to preventive health care and the treatment plans she recommends. Dr. Sugumaran sees patients at Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center locations in Phoenix, Chandler, Mesa, Sun City and Surprise.

After receiving her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2007, Dr. Sugumaran broadened her expertise by completing a clinical research fellowship with the LuEsther T. Mertz Retinal Research Laboratory, Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital, in New York. She subsequently completed a residency in ophthalmology at Hofstra North Shore-Long Island Jewish School of Medicine in Great Neck, N.Y. In the final year of her residency, she held the position of Chief Resident.

Dr. Sugumaran enjoys spending time with her husband and children as well as reading and outdoor activities.
